Kennedy-related disgust

As an atheist, I simply think that Edward Kennedy is no longer among us; he's neither in heaven nor eternally fighting for air in a sinking car, whichever I think he deserves.

I am rather disgusted by some things that have turned up in the past few days, though:

From an interview with Ed Klein, friend of the Kennedys and author of several books on them: "I don't know if you know this, but one of [Ted Kennedy's] favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself. And he would ask people, 'Have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick?'"

From the "you have to drown a woman to make an omelet" department: Joyce Carol Oates in the Guardian posits that Mary Jo Kopechne's death was worthwhile as it resulted in Ted Kennedy's Senate career.
