"a REAL Christian"

Ted Kennedy lost his battle with brain cancer and died this morning, and the eulogies may even surpass those for Michael Jackson.

Just out of curiosity, I took a look over at the cesspool of left-wing thought, Democratic Underground. Lots of calls for Obamacare under the "win one for the Gipper" banner, or naming the bill for Kennedy; lots of tributes to Kennedy, among which was one saying he was "a REAL Christian".

Now, as I may have mentioned in the past, I'm an atheist; I have no reason to suppose that there is a god. That said, I have a hard time thinking of Kennedy as a "REAL Christian".

You'll recall the story of the rich man and Jesus. The left seems to have a version of the Bible in which Jesus says in response to the question of how to get to heaven, "See that guy over there? Take all he has, and give it to the poor," and that's what the left advocates--and what Ted Kennedy in particular advocated, using the government to seize other people's substance for allegedly noble reasons.

It's not charity unless you're giving your own resources; otherwise it's theft, being generous with other people's money.
