It fell through. Can't position a dish on non-common property so as to have line of sight to the satellite, and without the bundling, we can't justify the switch--not just for the Internet. It looks like for $14/month more I can move to 20 Mb/s if I want, and I'll have to think about whether I want for a bit. I can live with 8 Mb/s for a while longer. Maybe with Qwest offering 12 Mb/s, Mediacom will decide to raise the caps from 8 to 12 as they have done a couple of times in the past.
Also, it turns out that Mediacom desperately needs to update their web site info on available HD channels. For no difference in monthly billing, we can schlep the digital cablel box in and swap it for an HD-capable box. For $10/month more, we can do the swap for a box with DVR capability. HD channels available, aside from some movie stuff we don't care about:
local stations (thank goodness for must-carry), WGN A, ESPN/ESPN2 (big whoop...), FSN Midwest (ditto), TNT, TBS, CNN, USA, Sci-Fi, Discovery Theater, A&E, History Channel, Starz, Showtime, and TMC.
So... all of you who I emailed saying "use my gmail address", never mind! False alarm! Sorry about that, Chief...
