Murphy strikes again

OK. We're hoping to go visit family on Monday.

I'm left to wait in the minivan as Billie heads in to put on makeup. Minutes pass.

I hear a strange noise from the right front of the minivan, almomst a groaning sound. It passes.

A few minutes later, it returns, accompanied by what is either steam or smoke. I turn the motor off immediately, and realize that the sound is sort of like that made by boiling water.

When Billie returns, I describe what happened. She decides it's probably the cooling system, and after a while, we drive off to where she hopes to get help. Thank goodness the ambient temperature is in the upper teens.

Oy, does she not get help. I won't name the place, but its initials are NAPA. She emerges in tears.

We head to Wal-Mart, where the young woman behind the counter recites her memorized spiel about what they don't do at Wal-Mart, and it's looking like we're getting the same brush-off as at the previous place. Fortunately, a fellow who works there in the auto department offers to point us at some premixed antifreeze so we can buy it, and then he will pour some into the cooling system.

He does so, and we seem to have gotten by since, though we're still not sure. Monday the minivan goes in for examination by someone who actually will help.

I sincerely hope that it's something simple and cheap to repair, and that minimal collateral damage happened. Any and all good wishes are cheerfully accepted.
